Buster Drake

Holidays being what they are, and my buffer being what it never is, no new strip this week. I did manage to squeak out a pinup, but it was all Michelle that made it look good.

The other news is that Buster’s shelf life is almost up. Sometime around the end of September the last new strip will be going up. I’ll come back to him someday, but for now, he’s going to need a little break.

Well, slightly over, this is week 5 I believe. It’s high time everyone let me know what they think of the new look, site and strip. I’ll tell you, I’m super happy with it so far. I’m having fun writing, drawing, all of it.

This week was a near miss, and the blog post is late, but that’s what moving will do I guess. We’ve upgraded to the four bedroom duplex, from a three bedroom model. Probably more room than the three of us need, but nice none the less. I now have a more or less dedicated office, and my comics have come out of the garage and into the closet, a small step perhaps, but a step nonetheless.

The largest upgrade is for my daughter, who’s room is not only twice the size of her old room, but now the largest of the available bedrooms in the house. Her room was assigned to her on the basis of the closet. The bar was low enough for her to reach, she can now dress herself, and I can get out of bed 5 minutes later. Win-Win. At least until our bedroom furniture doesn’t fit. But still, who really needs their dresser in the same room as their bed? That kind of convenience is over-rated.

For years I’ve owned and read a great big Buck Rogers treasury. It was years ago, almost a decade even, that I was flipping through this book and thought: “I want to do THIS.”

So a few years, a few iterations, and here we are, and I’m still reading the same treasury with the same strips, and wishing I had more. And finally, I can have more. I could have had more a long time ago if I’d thought to ask Amazon. Instead I waited until I stumbled across a press release at Comic Book Resources, and subsequently found this beauty. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century: The Complete Newspaper Dailies, Vol. 1: 1929-1930. A birthday just can’t come soon enough.
